Meet Derartu, one of the 50 mothers in our Family Empowerment Program (FEP). She’s a single mother of two children.
Improving the economic situations of families is crucial to the work we do at Addis Jemari. We know it helps families stay together and become sustainable.
Derartu is currently trying her best to make income to support her, but she needs our support. By working together with our Ethiopian staff, Derartu is ready to implement a business plan which focuses on scaling up her vegetable business.
The Income Generating Activity (IGA) is a key component of our Family Empowerment Program and includes training, resources, and interventions we provide to help families increase their household income — with the ultimate goal of becoming self-reliant.
Derartu has been in the vegetable business for three years but because of lack of capital to deliver larger amount of vegetables, she never earned as much as she wanted (or needed) from the business. She needs financial support for purchasing scales and vegetable boxes needed to transport larger amounts of vegetables to where she sells them.
