Addis Jemari Joins Government-Nongovernmental Organizations Forum (GO-NGO Forum)

Aug 24, 2021

Being in the nonprofit business requires partnering and networking with other like-minded organizations to maximize program impact. It allows nonprofits like Addis Jemari (AJ) to come together and supportively work together with other organizations to realize common visions.

As part of expanding its network, AJ recently joined a GO-NGO forum that was initiated by the Ministry of Women, Children and Youth Affair (MoWoCY) in Addis Ababa. This forum, established between Government and Nongovernmental organizations, brings together all nonprofit efforts in a manner where each could learn what others are doing and utilize that information to improve collaborative work. AJ is proud to be part of this formation where a new space is created for us to operate and serve our program beneficiaries even better!

As indicated, the forum was established by the ministry at the city level. It, however, includes the sub-city and district offices as members, therefore bringing leaders of Nongovernmental Organizations together, all who are working in various aspects of human services. Some, for example, include SOS Village Ethiopia, Concern, and Handicap International. The initial meeting was held back in March 2021, and it provided member organizations valuable introductions on each other’s areas of expertise and allowed the formation of a committee representing nonprofits.

AJ is already engaged in learning from the experiences of other NGOs who have stake on social services for women and children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This new platform, however, gives AJ further opportunities to easily access district and sub-city officials and NGO stakeholders working in areas of women and children.

We are excited and are looking forward to further utilizing this opportunity and better serve our program beneficiaries!
